4H Projects - HERE WE COME!

Today was our first 4H meeting. Now that TJ is 8 years old he can be a true blue 4H member. Tyra is a little Clover Bud until she turns 8, and Braxton just likes to be there with us for the fun of it. My friend, Laurel, and I are going to be 4H leaders for our kids this year. They are doing projects in Cooking, Sewing, Gardening, Camping and Origami!!! I think it is going to be sooo much fun. Tommy is a little bit annoyed with me though for taking on ONE more thing. I STILL haven't got everything done for my class reunion that I am suppose to do. Oops! I probably ought to get on that.

My thing with doing 4H this year, is that all growing up I always wanted to do 4H and never got the opportunity to, so I just thought it would be fun to try it. If it is not as fun as I had hoped or if it is just way too much work, then I won't do it next year, but so far I think it is great! The kids seemed to really enjoy it too.

Here the kids are learning about all of the different kitchen tools. Luckily I am working with a friend that is a very good cook. I didn't even know what some of the tools were used for!

Braxton thought the can opener was for opening oranges! SILLY KID!! We also went over all of the kitchen safety rules with the kids. They DID know most of those already. I guess I've been doing SOMETHING right!

Everyone got a turn learning how to measure flour. Then we made "Peanut Butter Balls". Each child got to mix in a different ingredient and they all got a chance to mix it together.

.........................THE FINISHED PROJECT!!!.........................

TJ actually liked them. Although he only ate one and gave the rest to me. Which of course was okay by me, because I thought they tasted great!
Tyra made itty bitty tiny balls. They were so cute! She did eat all of hers by herself though. She's such a good eater.

I think Braxton had all of his gone before he got a chance to roll them into balls! I guess he liked them too! After that, Laurel and I went over several more things that we are planning to do while the kids played outside. Later we had Rice Crispy Treats for our 2nd snack! I'd say it went pretty well for our first meeting, wouldn't you?

This Saturday I am taking the kids to a gardening class at one of our local markets for our next meeting. I can't wait! It'll be great for me too. I am so excited about doing our garden this year!
