State Fair 2008

This year we went to the fair on Friday because it was a 'buy one get one free' day for wristbands. I saved $40. YAY!!! The only catch was that the wristbands only lasted until 6pm, which I was TOTALLY okay with. Me and my sister-in-law, Alison, got our kids out of school at lunch time and met our friend, Kim, at the fair. Our school district let everyone get out of school at 1 pm for the fair on Wednesday and Thursday, but not today, so I felt a little guilty, but O'well. It was definitely worth the money I saved. Right when we got there we went straight for the rides. I had to get me a wristband too, so I could ride with Braxton on the rides that he wasn't tall enough for.

...................SWINGS....................

.....................SLIDE.....................

This slide is HUGE! Braxton actually wasn't quite tall enough, but they let me go with him. It took FOREVER to walk up all those steps!

I pushed us down REALLY fast, so we were flying over the bumps. Don't you love Braxton's face?!! I am not sure how much he liked it.

...............TILT-A-WHIRL...............

At first, Braxton was NOT liking this ride at ALL. He actually started crying a bit and I just kept telling him to scream. It made it tons funner and made him quit thinking about not liking it.

TJ had a blast!! Eventually Braxton got used to it, too.

Tyra rode with Kim and her kids. I took this picture as we were spinning in circles and so were they. I can't believe I got the shot. Tyra loved the ride too! I got pretty sick after this one. I hadn't eaten all day, NOT A GOOD IDEA!

......DRAGON ROLLER COASTER.....

I finally got a picture with Alexis in it. She went and rode rides with a bunch of her friends for most of the day, so I was glad to get this picture.

................SCRAMBLER.................

I got too many good pictures of this ride that I had to put them in a slide show. Kim had to ride with the kids because I was STILL too sick after riding the Tilt-a-whirl. Can you believe it?? I LOVE riding rides! I couldn't believe that I got sick. I was so sad.

..............STARSHIP 3000.............

This is one of TJ's favorite rides. It was the only "Big Kid" ride that he would get on last year. I do have to say that he was MUCH braver this year.

TJ, Tyra and Cody were the only three tall enough to ride it though, so we had a lot of hurt feelers. I felt so bad for the little ones. Tyra just made the cut off at 48 inches. Of course her tall shoes and high hair may have helped a little!!! Actually, I really didn't have her wear high healed boots, but I probably should have.

...............BUMPER CARS...............

None of the kids were tall enough for this ride. Every year TJ wants to ride the Bumper Cars SO bad. I couldn't believe he still wasn't tall enough. He'll probably be 15 before he can ride them!! All of the kids sat and stared forever wishing they could ride too.

.....................VIPER.....................

Okay, I could not BELIEVE that 42" was the cut off for this ride. Braxton and Kim's little one, were the only two that couldn't ride it. Braxton sat himself on the ground and threw a BIG OLE fit! The funny thing about it, is he would've gone on it too. Braxton and Tyra both have so much GUTS! TJ happened to see his best friend, Ben, at this ride so Ben talked him into it. Luckily Ben was up at the front of the line because I think if TJ would have had any more time to think about it, he would've talked himself out of it.

I asked Tyra to show me how excited she was to go on this ride and this is what she did. Real excited, huh? She actually was though, apparently I just didn't capture her excitement with my camera! I must of just missed it.

Look how scared these boys look!!

.............SWINGS (AGAIN)............

....................GAMES....................

I have no idea why, but each year we always let the kids play the fishing game. Well, I DO know why. It's because it is the only game that they win something at no matter how good they do. So each of these silly toys cost me $2 each. Our kids are SO spoiled. This is exactly what Braxton did for the rest of the day, after he won his sword. GRRR!

Here are Alison and I's kids with their new toys.

The day was AWESOME! We had GREAT weather and the lines were super short until about 5:30 pm. It was definitely worth letting the kids come early. Just as we were finishing up rides Troy and Tommy met up with us. Kim and her kids went home. We all had dinner from different places and YUM, was it good?! But YES, it was VERY expensive. After dinner we all went and saw TJ's 4-H projects and he won the big rainbow ribbon for his cooking project. So, that was pretty exciting!! We quickly looked through the photography and art buildings and then we took the kids to see the animals in the petting zoo. All in all, it was a pretty fun day. There are quite a few things that I don't like about the fair, but I will tell you what... the kids sure LOVE it, and THAT makes it worth it!!!
